The Luxar CO2 surgical laser is a precision instrument that offers significant advantages to the surgical practitioner, with potential for use in a multitude of applications as an addition to traditional instruments and techniques. Depending on the clinical application, the Luxar laser may be used for:

  • Char-free ablation;
  • Incision or excision;
  • Vaporization or ablation;
  • Providing hemostasis.

Every refurbished Luxar CO2 surgical laser we sell is warranted to confirm to OEM specifications. As appropriate, individual components are replaced, repaired, reprocessed, tuned, and tweaked to meet or exceed the original factory standards. Each refurbished system comes with new fiber waveguides, laser handpieces, an assortment of laser tips, smoke evacuator and accessories, user manual, and a 1 year limited warranty. Extended warranties are also available - please see the standard service plan and loaner service plan pages for details.

We offer five models of refurbished Luxar CO2 laser systems. These represent a tremendous value as compared to a comparable new system. Due to the rather unpredictable supply of these lasers, we may not have all models in stock at all times. We encourage you to call us to discuss your individual needs.

HOW LASERS WORK: A Luxar CO2 laser tube resonator consists of the following interacting elements: an active medium to support the lasing action, an excitation mechanism to supply energy to the active medium, and a feedback mechanism to promote amplification of the laser beam. In the Luxar CO2 laser tube resonator, the active medium contains carbon dioxide, CO2, gas. The excitation mechanism is a 32 Volts low-voltage power supply which produces an electric field that changes from positive to negative 40-million times each second. This rapidly oscillating electric field excites the CO2 molecules to a higher energy state. A CO2 molecule will shed this extra energy by releasing it in the form of a wavelet of light known as a photon. After a time, each CO2 molecule is available for re-excitation. Initially, most of the photons are emitted in random directions and lost, but some are emitted along the axis of the laser tube. These photons bounce back and forth between the laser mirrors (the feedback mechanism) at either end of the laser cavity. When an excited CO2 molecule is struck by a photon flying between mirrors, it is stimulated to emit a photon whose wavelength and direction are identical to that of the stimulating photon. This is called stimulated emission. The original and the newly emitted photons continue to stimulate the production of more photons, which results in an amplification of light. In order for some of the photons to be released to do useful work, one of the two mirrors is made somewhat transmissive so that some photons leak out. Those that escape in this way create the laser beam.
